Keeping up with demand - New equipment

DK Thermal Solutions of Hertford, manufacturer of metal backed PCBs has invested further in leading edge technology, confirming its long term commitment to the rapidly expanding Thermal management and LED PCB sector. Two bespoke driller router machines for machining the complex aluminium backed laminates have been installed and commissioned at a cost of £250k. These are deemed necessary to meet forecasts, throughput, quality and the demands of customers.
The installation of these specialist German made Lenz machines, which have an output of ten times that of adapted FR4 PCB equivalent machines, is seen as the solution to enhance the DK Thermal manufacturing flow process.
Bryan Davies, CEO of DK Thermal commented “It is now common place, on new equipment purchases, to work closely with suppliers and as in this case with our German counterparts at Lenz. The result of this collaboration of engineers ensures full specification is captured within the features of the machine. We see these machines as another piece of the jigsaw in our quest to further exceed customer expectations”.

New employee: Peter Dobromylski

Peter joined DK Thermal Solutions in June 2011 as regional sales representative for the UK and Ireland. Peter has been involved in the manufacture and sales of IMS (Metal Backed) PCBs for over 20 years.

Originally training as a Mechanical Engineer, he took the opportunity to live and work in the USA in 1985, working in the aerospace industry as a QA Manager. He stayed in California for 4⅟₂ years before returning to the UK. It was on his return to the UK, in 1990, that he joined the PCB industry for a company manufacturing FR4 and Metal PCBs as UK Sales Engineer.

“Moving to DK Thermal seemed like a natural progression for me as they are clearly seen to be the market leaders in IMS and Thermal PCBs. I am really looking forward to joining the DK Thermal team.”

Cool Figures

DK Thermal, the PCB thermal solutions leader and its primary Thermal interface partner Laird Technology are enjoying a fruitful partnership.

During their three year relationship, TIM sales and distribution have seen a healthy growth with DK Thermal turnover increasing by 30% year on year. The economic climate at the moment is tough to say the least says Sales Specialist, Terry Clark, who goes on to say “this is hard earned, achieved by outperforming competitors giving customers unrivalled service and ensuring them of attention to detail”

DK Thermal has set out its stall to support the ‘thermal world’ where electrical and electronic equipment is being pushed relentlessly to extremes to gain better performance, and of course generating heat as a consequence.

The current LED boom and buoyant power and microprocessor sectors have aided growth. Successful figures using the spring board of experience, dating back to 1990, is not coincidental.

The thermal sector of the electrical and electronics world is gaining momentum with every day that passes leaving both DK Thermal and Laird Technology in a strong position to support the growth.

As an independent manufacturer, DK Thermal Solutions can select the best materials on the market for your application and also supply where and when you need it.

Exhibitions

DK Thermal Solution will be showing their formable Thermal LED PCB Solutions at the LEDs fair in the USA at  LEDs 2011: Bringing Lighting to Life is now online! Learn from Switch Lighting, U.S. Department of Energy, Nichia, ABILUX (Brazilian Lighting Industry Association), ASBAI (Brazilian Association for Architectural Lighting Designers), Cree, Philips, Acuity Brands Lighting, OSRAM Sylvania and many more key organizations such as DK Thermal solutions.

Formable Thermal LED PCB Solutions

A unique proposition is Formable Thermal LED PCB Solutions. Unlike brittle ceramic or epoxy systems, the dielectric is formulated using a flexible thermally loaded material. This allows component placement using standard paste and reflow techniques, the board is  formed to shape after assembly giving a one piece system removing the need for interconnecting wires.

This enables the LED lights to be directed in the optimum direction for any application, which gives a better light yield, making your application more efficient. Applications such as garage lighting, street lighting or medical lighting are ideal for formable PCB solutions.

How does it work? After manufacture and assembly the boards are able to be bent or formed using a jig system. Nearly any shape is possible, without X or Y limitations. The advised bending angle per section is up to an angle of 70°. So one is able to make a full circle of 360° in a number of sections via multiple bending, or an arch or another bent shape, without the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) being affected.

The Formable Thermal PCB solutions are made specifically for the needs of the application at hand. At DK Thermal Solutions we design the boards specifically to your needs and to your design. If needed, DK Thermal Solutions can also take care of the assembly into a complete unit for you.

A massive boost to Thermal Interface Business

Some time ago DK Thermal added the supply of Thermal Interface Materials to its range of offerings. We are now able to take that a stage further and build on the success it has shown with the appointment of Terry Clark as our new dedicated Sales specialist. Terry is a very experienced hand in the PCB world and no stranger to TCL group which he first joined nearly 30 years ago.

DK Thermal CEO Bryan Davies said “we are delighted to have been able to persuade someone as experienced as Terry to join the team and develop this business for us. Terry’s appointment is a massive boost to our knowledge pool and further extends the service and experience we can offer our customers”.
